What Is Diathermy?

Diathermy is a painless and safe therapy that uses manageable levels of heat and electric current to soothe patients suffering from irritated nerves and other issues relating to the muscles and joints.

There are three types of diathermy: short-wave, microwave, and ultrasound diathermy. Short-wave diathermy sends high-frequency waves to generate heat in the targeted tissue. Besides relieving pain, this type of diathermy also heals wounds and facilitates the restoration of damaged cells. Unlike short-wave, microwave diathermy targets tissues of lesser depth. Ultrasound diathermy focuses on sending current to deep tissues in the body.

Benefits

Studies have shown diathermy aids in blood flow, reducing pain and mobility. Diathermy is also used to treat a variety of conditions including:

Arthritis

Back pain

Muscle spasms

Tendonitis

Fibromyalgia

Bursitis

How Does It Work?

Your trusted Carrollton, GA chiropractor will use a diathermy machine to produce comfortable levels of heat into the inflamed tissues of the body. Depending on the type of diathermy you need, Dr. Pete will apply cream or oil to the concerned area to transmit energy into the tissues.
