What is sciatica?

Sciatica is a common pain that occurs in the sciatic nerve, which extends from the lower back down the back of both legs. Sciatica is caused by irritation in the lumbar and lumbosacral spine. The severity of the pain will vary from person to person and can range from constant and severe to sporadic and mildly annoying. Symptoms that may indicate sciatica include:
